Throughout her history, which began in 1971, ECYD has offered an attractive way of living the Catholic faith and bringing Christ to many adolescents.
Here we offer a brief chronology of the more important events in the life of ECYD as an institution:
1971: First incorporations of ECYD (with the acronym meaning “Education, Culture and Sports”, from the spanish “Educación, Cultura y Deporte”)
1972 – 1974: Foundation of the first ECYD clubs
1983: Publication of the 1st edition of the ECYD Statutes, with about 3000 members around the world.
1994: Publication of the 2nd edition of the ECYD Statutes, revised after the General Chapter of the Legion of Christ in 1992.
1996: Beginning of the ECYD Missionary program
2000: Launch of the “Catholic Youth World Network” (CYWN), an internationl network of ECYD youth clubs.
2007: The “Network of Youth Clubs of Mission Network” substitutes “Catholic Youth World Network”.
2011: The meaning of the ECYD acronym changes to “Encounters, Convictions, Your Decisions”.
2012: Publication of the ECYDbook.
2016: Publication of the current edition of the ECYD Statutes.
